Team's Student Visionaries of the Year Fundraiser

Feb 27, 2024

We are writing to you today to ask for your support for the LLS.

Hello, I am Gwyn Gilbert, I am a junior at Sierra High School. I am very involved on campus and am currently serving as Administrative Student Body class secretary and Wellness Club secretary. I take part in ASB, FCA, CSF, Wellness Club, and Podcast Club meetings and activities. I also play Varsity Volleyball.

Hi, I am Taryn Esajian, and I am also a junior enrolled at Sierra High School. I am serving as Administrative Student Body Athletics Commissioner, CSF Vice President, FCA Secretary, Wellness Club Vice President, Podcast Club Vice President, Swap for Good Treasurer, and a part of RHO Kappa History Club. I play Varsity Volleyball and Varsity Basketball at Sierra High.

This year we are privileged to be nominated as candidates to lead a team (Sierra Fights Cancer), in The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) 2024 Students of the Year Visionary Campaign. Students of the Year is a seven-week fundraising competition led by high school students to raise money to support LLS and their cause. With that said during this campaign we will be running in honor of Tristan Graham.

We are competing with other students and together we will put our best fundraising foot forward in honor of all those fighting blood cancer. We are writing today to ask for your support of our campaign and LLS’s mission to find cures for blood cancers and to assist patients and families as they battle leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease or myeloma. We have been given an opportunity to help others and we cannot do it without the support of our amazing friends, families, businesses and community members.

From February 29th to April 19th, Sierra Fights Cancer’s goal is to raise over $50,000! Yes, you read that correctly, more than $50,000 in 7 weeks, which will go directly to LLS in support of its longstanding mission. We know this is an ambitious undertaking, but we know that with your help, we can accomplish it!

We are leading this team in honor of our hero, Tristen Graham, a current 3rd grader at Foothill Elementary School. In 2019, at 4 Tristen was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). This diagnosis was a shock to his whole family, their lives were turned upside down. 2 days following a central line was placed and treatment was started. He continued treatment for 2 and a half years with a variety of chemotherapies. In December 2021, Tristen ringed the chemo-free bell and flew to Disney world with his family to celebrate. Unfortunately, his story does not end there, in April of 2023 9 days before his 8th birthday the cancer came back. The doctors gave the family the plan of action and it went into effect. He was on the path for a Bone Marrow Transplant, started chemotherapies again and was also treated with immunotherapy funded and researched by the LLS. On July 3rd he and his family moved up the Stanford Medical Hospital for his transplant. Tristen's father was a donor, and the transplant happened on July 13th. Since his transplant he has been recovering and rebuilding his immune system.

We thank you in advance for supporting this incredible cause, and please remember, every bit counts. We are certain you are the most generous and strongest among any of the candidates this year and we look forward to letting you know that our campaign has reached its goal!
